Be The Opportunist!

New Years' Eve is quickly approaching and this is the time of year we all think about what we are going to aim to do with our new fresh year. Being one who hasn't made a New Year's Resolution in a few years, I have found that this year, I became an opportunist.  This meant that when I was offered a chance at something, I jumped at it; once I looked it over.  If it looked good and fun, I did it.
This year was the fullest calendar I've ever had in my life!  There were months that just zipped by and I didn't realise how fast they went until I looked at my day diary and found out it the first week of the following month.  Yes, a lot of great things happen to an opportunist once they get on a roll and start loving what they do.
However, it took me years to get myself out there and just do it.  I was the ultimate control freak when it came to my of what I wanted to do in my year after NYE came and went.  I even got to the point that when I didn't reach a particular goal it depressed me to no end.  So, one year, I sat there down the coast and thought about what I wanted to do with my New Year and realised that I had nothing; and wouldn't you believe it?  That depressed me more than having too much to do!  Seeing I couldn't have my cake and eat it too, I thought to try and go with the flow that year.  I found it so hard to do that, it drove me nuts just to go out on a whim.
As the years passed, I found it easier to close up the house and just go out.  However, this year has been my best year yet!  If I want to go out, I pack a bag, some money and a few essentials and go.  I have a lovely sense of freedom when I leave my home and it's nice to know when I come back that I'm able to go out and do what I wish.
This year, I've had so much come my way and I've said yes to it more than I have said no.  It's a great way of becoming the person I want to be and stopping being the person others expect me to be.  I haven't felt this free about myself in over a decade and I don't wish to stop doing opportunistic things next year.

So, what have you got planned for next year?  Do you plan your New Years or do you do what I do and just jump at the opportunities as they come along?  If you're an opportunist?  How long have you been one?  Or have you been one all your life?  Until my next post, take care, keep warm and safe and remember, I'm always here.
